Probation is ordered as a part of sentencing in many criminal cases. Most Wisconsin inmates would prefer probation over being incarcerated. While on probation there are several rules and regulations that need to be followed.

PROBATION RULES

Many of the rules of probation depend on the details of the case and type of conviction, but often include the following:

Meeting with probation officer regularly

Sustaining from drugs and alcohol

Submitting to drug and alcohol tests

Obtaining and maintaining employment

Completing community service

Paying restitution

Paying supervision fees

Not leaving the State of Wisconsin without permission

Following all laws

PROBATION VIOLATION

If you violate the rules of your probation, your agent will complete a violation investigation. You may be placed in jail by your agent while the violation is being investigated. If it is determined that you have violated the terms of your probation, the next step depends on how you were sentenced.

SENTENCE WITHHELD

If at your Sentencing hearing the sentence was withheld and you were placed on probation, you will return to court for sentencing.

SENTENCE IMPOSED AND STAYED

If at your Sentencing hearing the sentence was imposed and stayed and you were placed on probation, then you will be required to serve the sentence imposed by the court and you will not return to court.
